Key Attractions

Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower)

During the tour, you will pass by Toki no Kane (Time Bell), located within Ueno Onshi Park. This historic bell was first installed in 1666 and later recast in 1787.

During the Edo period, there were nine time bells placed across the city of Edo (now Tokyo), serving an essential role in announcing the time to residents. The Ueno Time Bell is one of the few that still remains today, and it continues to chime three times daily at 6 AM, noon, and 6 PM.

In 1996, it was selected by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment as one of the “100 Soundscapes of Japan” – a collection of culturally significant sounds worth preserving.

While the tour does not include a stop at the bell, your guide will provide insights into its history as you pass by, allowing you to appreciate its significance in Tokyo’s past..

Nezu Shrine

One of Tokyo’s oldest and most beautiful shrines, Nezu Shrine, is famous for its stunning torii gates, lush gardens, and rich history. The shrine, dating back over 1,900 years, is particularly breathtaking during spring when its azalea garden is in full bloom. Visitors can walk through the serene pathways, soak in the spiritual atmosphere, and admire the intricate architectural details.
